£17M FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING POINTS WELCOMED BY LONDON’S GREEN COURIER COMPANY

The courier company which launched the first electric powered vehicles on delivery routes in central London, Abby Couriers, has welcomed plans to install 7,500 charging points across London for electric vehicles.

Managing Director of Abby Couriers, Mark Giles, said: “This £17 million investment will create 7,500 charging points for electric vehicles across London by 2013 which is great news for the capital’s environment as more residents turn to electric powered vehicles.

“Currently Abby Couriers operates two electric delivery vehicles from its depot in Vauxhall which is proving very successful as it reduces carbon emissions and also keeps costs down for our business.

“The only limitation on using electric delivery vehicles in London is the proximity of charging points which means they can only be used within a route of 70 miles from the depot.

“If businesses can access  1,000 charging points from next year and the 7,500 charging points from 2013 that means more electric vehicles can be used by Abby Couriers and other companies so we particularly welcome this initiative from the Mayor of London and look forward to the new points being installed rapidly.”
